EEOC REPORT DUE FOR DEALERS WITH 100 OR MORE EMPLOYEES BY SEPT. 30
Equal Opportunity Commission (EEOC) reports (form EEO – 1) are required to be submitted by employers who have 100 or more employees, and employers who employ a total of 100 or more employees from “affiliated entities.” These reports are due to the EEOC no later than Sept. 30, 2007.
Affiliated Entities: Entities are considered “affiliated” if they have centralized ownership, control or management. Generally, multiple dealerships will be considered affiliated if there is “common ownership or control.” Dealerships with common ownership that may be close to the 100-employee threshold across multiple stores/locations should check closely the EEOC definitions and applicability to ensure compliance with any necessary reporting requirements.
For those who do fall under these reporting requirements, the EEOC has changed some
of the ethnic and racial categories as well as some job categories on the reports. More detailed instructions and form for are available at: www.eeoc.gov/eeo1survey/index.html
and on the EEOC’s main web site at: www.eeoc.gov.

WORKERS COMPENSATION: THE IMPORTANCE OF A SAFETY COMMITTEE
Want to reduce your insurance
rates? At a time when insurance
rates are skyrocketing,
studies show that effective
Safety Committees can reduce
dealership accidents by as much
as 52%.
The reason – effective safety committees find solutions to problems that often cause workplace accidents, illnesses, and injuries. Fewer accidents, injuries, and illnesses mean lower workers’ compensation claims costs and lower insurance rates, not to mention out-of-pocket expenses and potential damage to the dealership’s reputation.
Objectives of a Safety Committee
A safety committee is responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment at your dealership. Members of the committee are important contributors, as their actions will:
-
Improve the health and safety conditions of the dealership, for the benefit of employees, customers and suppliers;
-
Reduce the number, severity, and financial impact of injuries and illnesses;
-
Support compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.
Key Recommendations for an Effective Safety Committee
-
Senior management commitment is essential to an effective Safety Committee
-
The Safety Committee should include senior management and management from each department and meet on a regular basis
-
The Committee should thoroughly review and investigate all accidents during each Safety Committee meeting
-
All safety inspection items identified in the facility inspection document prepared should be reviewed and corrective action taken
-
The Safety Committee should develop programs that encourage employees to work safely at all times
-
The committee should have a system of communicating with all employees on matters relating to the committee’s activities
